Frequently asked questions

How many products can you photograph in an hour?

Usually 15 to 20 images in a one-hour session. Simple packshots on white go quickest; styled still life takes longer per shot.

Do you offer still life photography?

Yes. Still life is part of product photography, at the same rate of £95 an hour, with the studio and every image included.

When will I get my product photos?

Unretouched images the same day by WeTransfer, and retouched images within three working days.

Can you shoot products at my premises?

Yes, anywhere in London. I bring the lights with me. Studio shoots are at Studio A in Kentish Town.

Product photography on white for Amazon and online shops

Packshots on white are still what most online shops and marketplaces ask for, and Amazon wants the main image on a pure white background. I shoot every product in a range on one lighting set-up, at the same height, angle and crop, so a category page looks as if it was all photographed in one afternoon.

Retouching takes the background to clean white and removes dust, scratches, marks and small faults in the packaging. If you need several views of each product, such as front, back, side and a close detail, tell me before the shoot so I can plan the order.

Still life and creative product photography

Still life is product photography with more styling, and it’s part of the same service. For a launch, an ad or a social post I build the picture around the product: hair clay in a burst of red powder, sweets cut open to show the centre, champagne beside its gift box, a pouch above a grid of ingredients.

The studio has a motorised ten-colour backdrop system, so a coloured or split background is quick to change, and I work on dark sets with props and flowers as readily as on plain white.

What I photograph

The mix is wide: food and confectionery, drinks bottles, stationery, homeware and lighting, eyewear, hair and grooming products, and larger pieces such as a bicycle on white. Most products come to the studio in Kentish Town, London. For things that are too big or awkward to move, I can bring the lights to you.

How to prepare products for a shoot

Bring the cleanest examples you have, plus a spare where you can. Peel off price stickers and security tags, steam any fabric, and bring the packaging if you want it in shot. A short list of products, with the views you need for each, keeps the session moving, because you’re paying for studio time rather than for setting up.
