More about

Family Photography

Family photography in a London studio

A studio family session gives you clean, well-lit portraits with no worries about rain, crowds or a toddler heading off across the grass. Studio A in Kentish Town has room for the whole family, a sofa to gather on, and ten background colours to choose from.

We start with group pictures while everyone is fresh, then break into smaller combinations: the parents together, each child on their own, grandparents with the grandchildren. After that the session loosens up, and the unplanned moments are often the ones you end up framing.

If you’d rather be outdoors, I can also shoot in a park or at your home. With two hours booked we can do both on the same day, so you leave with clean studio portraits and a looser set taken outside.

Photographing babies, toddlers and children

Young children do best when the shoot moves at their pace. I keep the lighting fixed so they can wander and play without me stopping to adjust anything, and I shoot quickly while they’re interested.

Bring snacks, a favourite toy and a spare outfit, and book a time that fits around naps rather than right before one. I’m DBS checked, which many parents like to know before they book.

What to wear for family photos

Choose colours that sit well together rather than identical outfits. Two or three tones across the family, without big logos or slogans, keeps the eye on faces. In an hour there’s usually time for two or three changes, so you can have a smarter set and a casual one. Bring a hairbrush and some wipes; there are two lit make-up mirrors for a last check before the first group picture.

Most family pictures look right straight from the camera. All the images come to you by WeTransfer on the day, ready to share. If there are a few you want to print large or frame, I’ll retouch those within three working days.
